Sasha Bianchi, Volunteers in Medicine Executive Director, visited the Bennington Free Clinic last week. The clinic has recently moved into a newer, larger space in which many community services are offered under one roof.
One of these co-located services is the Kitchen Cupboard, which provides local produce and healthy food to 25% of Bennington families. Clinic Executive Director, Sue Andrews, is passionate about nutrition and its impact upon health. She has implemented FoodFit, an evidence-based curriculum that promotes cooking with healthy ingredients. Having the Kitchen Cupboard onsite will facilitate integration between the clinic, the food distribution center, and FoodFit classes. Andrews plans to present this model at the VIM National Conference in May.
