Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Dr. Samuel Cassell, who passed away on January 7. Dr. Cassell was the founder of the Bergen Volunteers Medical Initiative (BVMI) in Hackensack, New Jersey.
A retired sub-specialty in pulmonary medicine, Dr. Cassell’s vision for BVMI was inspired in part by his volunteer work in Haiti. He brought together physicians, local services organizations and local hospitals and adopted the Volunteers in Medicine model to create BVMI.
