“My volunteer experience at the clinic is uplifting because of the appreciation of people who otherwise would not get the care they need.”

Volunteers in Medicine clinics attract retired and practicing physician volunteers to deliver care to uninsured patients.  Some clinics are fortunate to be located in towns with significant numbers of retired clinicians, while other locations draw on the practicing medical community for clinical volunteers.

More and more VIM clinics affiliate with medical schools in order to provide medical students and residents with hands-on community health experience delivering primary care to uninsured members of the community.  This experience has shaped future careers in family medicine for many of our young physicians.
